GLOSSARY

AUBUSSON

A center of French carpet production which began in the mid 17th century. At first, rugs woven in Aubusson were based on Turkish models but from the mid 19th century, designs began competing with those of the English. Many tapestry woven rugs were woven in the 18th and 19th centuries and generally those have designs of flowers and bouquets and architectural motifs.
